Trauma & PTSD

Many people experience trauma in their life, whether it’s an accident, abuse or neglect in childhood or relationships, the sudden death of a loved one, a violent criminal act, exposure to the violence of war, or a natural disaster.

While many people can recover from trauma over time with the love and support of family and friends and bounce back with resiliency, others may discover effects of lasting trauma, which can cause a person to live with deep emotional pain, fear, confusion, or posttraumatic stress far after the event has passed.

I can offer the support, guidance, and assistance with therapy that leads to intrinsic and vital healing.

Relationship Issues & Parenting

Anxiety

You may experience nervousness, restlessness, being tense, feelings of danger, panic or dread, rapid breathing, trembling, sweating, muscle tension, weakness, difficulty focusing on anything except what you are worried about, insomnia, or fear of situations in the future.

Anxiety can often be an isolating experience leaving you embarrassed and causing you to avoid activities you would otherwise enjoy.

I can help you develop coping and problem-solving skills that help you relax and live your life with more peace and effectiveness.

Depression

Everyone experiences sadness but depression is something more.

If you feel extreme sadness, despair that lasts more than days, sad feelings that interfere with the activities of daily life, cause physical symptoms such as pain, weight loss or gain, sleeping pattern disruptions, excessive sleeping, a lack of energy, an inability to concentrate, feelings of worthlessness or excessive guilt, and recurrent thoughts of death or suicide, therapy can be an effective course for your healing.

Depression is the most common mental disorder. Fortunately, depression is treatable.

I can offer you the insight, strategies, and coping skills to effectively heal from these symptoms.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a psychotherapy approach designed to work with distressing or traumatic memories.

Many psychological difficulties are the result of distressing life experiences which are not stored in your memory properly. Negative emotions, feelings, and behaviors are generally caused by unprocessed or unresolved earlier experiences.

The goal of EMDR therapy is to leave you with the emotions, understanding, and perspectives that will lead to healthy and useful behaviors and interactions.

EMDR therapy helps your brain to process completely the experiences that are causing problems, and help you develop new learning that guides you with healthier thoughts, feelings and behaviors in the future.

CBT

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a form of psychotherapy that focuses on modifying dysfunctional emotions, behaviors, and thoughts by interrogating and uprooting negative or irrational beliefs.

CBT helps people identify distressing thoughts and change distorted thinking, leading to healthier thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. CBT can lead to a significant improvement in functioning and quality of life.

Gottman couples therapy

The Gottman Method for Healthy Relationships is a form of couples-based therapy intervention developed from the relationship research of psychologist John Gottman and his wife, psychologist Julie Schwartz Gottman.

Gottman therapy focuses on developing the skills and understanding necessary for partners to maintain fondness and admiration, turn toward each other to get their needs met, and manage conflict. It also focuses on how couples can respond in a healthier manner and repair relationship errors.
